Humanity and "Us vs. Them" -

On March 4th, 2005 Equinox was asked,

Why does it seem that humanity wants to be separate in so many ways yet at the same time join specific groups for specific purposes and exclude others?

EQ: Because humanity does not want to be separate. It is natural for thee to remember the linkage originally. It is natural for thee to feel and remember the love originally, the safety originally. Unfortunately, thee are forgetting that it is not done with one on one or even one on fifty, but it is the entirety of all that is that brings thee back to that feeling of absolute safety. But until thee can feel that way, Earth will remain fear based. And as long as it is fear based, thee go back to the Neanderthal bonding together for safety. And it has to be “we are superior and thee are inferior so we are right”.

Why does it seem we need a “them” to be against? We’ll group together so that there is “us” but there has to also be a “them”.

EQ: Absolutely, there has to be a “them”.

Why do we feel the need for a “them” to react against?

EQ: How can thee be fear based if there isn’t something to react against? It is almost genetic. Thee banded together because of the need for safety. Is this not so? First tribal societies. Is this not so?

Yes.

EQ: Thee are still a tribal society, still a fear based tribal society, still a warring tribal society.

So if we don’t have something to fear we need to create an object to justify and direct our fear towards.

EQ: Exactly. Exactly. Look at all of thy religions. There is something in those religions to fear, is there not? Look at thy governments. How do the governments function?

By creating an enemy.

EQ: Exactly. If thee look at thy peoples, thee do this consistently. There must be an “us” so that there can be a “them”.

And that’s true for us here in this room, too.

EQ: Yes. It is true of all humanity as long as humanity is fear based. As long as humanity chooses not to accept responsibility it has to be this way. For if thee do not accept responsibility for the choices that thy life has taken, then it’s very easy to say, “This is not my fault. This is their fault. It is the government’s fault. It is my father’s fault. It is my mother’s fault. It’s my ex-wife.” Is this not so? That’s a “them”, is it not? Taken on a larger scale, it’s the Muslims, it’s the Jews, it’s the Iraqis, it’s the Japanese, it’s the American Indian. Look at all the enemies that every society has had. Has there been a time upon Terra where there has not been war?

I don’t know the details, but there was a 50 year time period where there were no wars.

EQ: And we would doubt that. We believe there were still warring tribes. There has never been a time on Terra where there has not been a war. Whether it’s a minor war or a major war is irrelevant.

Isn’t a disagreement a minor war?

EQ: Well, we talk groups and we talk violence. Disagreements can be jovial, can they not?

Yes.

EQ: But we are talking bigger.
